Overview
Test the ring group that receives your public number, including the point where nobody answers. A member's personal forwarding settings do not establish how a group call reaches them, and a queue needs its own waiting and fallback decisions.
Check the endpoint that actually rings
Google states that ring-group calls do not forward to mobile numbers linked to a member's Voice number; they call the member's primary number. Its editing guidance applies to Voice Standard and Premier subscriptions.
Have each assigned recipient demonstrate receiving a group call through the expected endpoint. Record the public number, group, member, and observed device. Do not accept a successful call to the member's individual number as proof that the group route works.
Separate unanswered calls from after-hours rules
Google's ring-group settings distinguish working hours from unanswered calls. The documented unanswered options include continuing to ring, playing a message and disconnecting, forwarding, or voicemail. Check which outcome is selected instead of assuming every missed group call reaches another person.
Write down the intended destination for a call during open hours and a call after closing. If either path should reach an answering service, obtain the account-specific receiving number and confirm that the destination recognizes the business. A public sales number is not a verified receiving route.
Check whether call queuing changes the wait path
Google separately documents call queuing when all group members are busy. Its configuration includes a maximum wait and the action after that wait, plus member attempt duration and after-call wrap-up time.
Ask the administrator whether queuing is enabled before interpreting a waiting caller's experience. Record the active setting and test its timeout outcome. Do not assume the non-queued unanswered-call behavior describes a queued call.
Accept coverage from observed outcomes
These are proposed acceptance cases, not recorded customer results. Keep the administrator-approved original configuration and a rollback owner until the checks pass. Confirm AnSer's supported handling separately; this guide does not certify an integration or response commitment.
- Member available: call the public number and confirm the intended member can answer through the group.
- Members unanswered: observe whether the call continues ringing, disconnects, forwards, or reaches voicemail as configured.
- Queue active: in an approved test setup, verify the configured waiting and timeout path without generating disruptive traffic.
- Office closed: confirm the time zone and destination used by the group's after-hours rule.
- Follow-up required: verify who receives any message and who owns the response.
